A man in his 60s being questioned by gardaí at Killarney, Co Kerry, in relation to the 1991 disappearance of Charles Brooke Pickard has been released without charge.
The man had been arrested in Co Kilkenny on Wednesday in relation to a firearms offence connected with the disappearance.
The investigation remains open and gardaí said they will now prepare a file for the DPP.
Mr Brooke Pickard, 43, and his wife Penny moved to Ireland from England in the mid-1980s and bought a farm and old farmhouse in Castlecove on the Ring of Kerry to start a new life for their family.
He had four young children at the time of his disappearance.
On 26 April 1991, he was due to go turf-cutting with a friend.
However, several people witnessed Mr Brooke Pickard being abducted by up to five men close to his home before he was driven away in his navy Ford Transit van.
Three weeks later, his van was found burned out at Shronaloughnane Forest, off a back road connecting Waterville and Glencar.
