A 44-year-old man has been before Cork District Court charged with the manslaughter of his friend at his friend's home in Cork last April.
Trevor O'Gorman of Sarahville Place, Pouladuff Road, Cork, was arrested by investigating gardaí this morning and charged with unlawfully killing 41-year-old Diarmuid Byrne.
Mr Byrne was at his home at Plunkett Road, Ballyphehane, Cork, on the afternoon of 26 April when he suffered a shotgun wound to the head.
He died at the scene and the emergency services were alerted.
Gardaí sealed off Mr Byrne's home and conducted a technical examination there.
A number of items recovered from Mr Byrne's home were technically and forensically examined as part of the garda investigation into his death.
Detective Sergeant Garda Mark Canny told the court that Mr O'Gorman made no reply when the charge was put to him.
Mr O'Gorman, who is unemployed, was granted free legal aid, and there was no garda objection to bail.
The court was told that the Director of Public Prosecutions had directed trial on indictment, and at least six weeks will be required for the preparation of a book of evidence.
Judge Leo Malone remanded Mr O'Gorman on bail on his own bond of €500.
He must surrender his passport and sign on daily at Togher Garda Station.
The case will be back before the court again on 21 December.
