The Children's Hospital Group in Dublin has said that the surge in patients attending Accident and Emergency departments in recent days is now under control.

Yesterday, the group said its hospitals had experienced unprecedented demand for admissions to inpatient beds.

The group comprises Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin; the Children’s University Hospital, Temple Street and the National Children’s Hospital in Tallaght.

They are continuing to advise families to attend their GP or out of hours GP services, instead of going to the three emergency departments, as is standard practice.

The hospitals say an increase in respiratory infections was behind the surge in demand.

In a statement, the hospital group said that the three hospitals are "operational but busy". It also said that the situation is "under constant review."
