A 24-year-old man has died following an assault in west Dublin in the early hours of this morning.
He has been named locally as Robert Ellis who lived in the area.
Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses following the killing, which occurred at Liscarne Gardens at around 3.10am.
Mr Ellis had been in the vicinity of a bonfire on St Mark’s Green when he was chased by a group across the Neilstown Road and then attacked in the back garden of a house.
Gardaí are appealing for information about a number of people seen climbing over the wall onto Neilstown Road after the incident.
Mr Ellis survived a gun attack last year in which his pregnant girlfriend was also injured.
He had a number of convictions including for assault and drugs distribution.

The State Pathologist's Office has been contacted.
