A man in his 50s who was found with serious head injuries in Limerick city two days ago has died in hospital.

The man was discovered outside an apartment block on Lord Edward Street, close to the People's Park, at around 7.45pm on Wednesday after an altercation with another man, who then fled the scene.

The injured man was initially taken to University Hospital Limerick and was later transferred to Cork University Hospital, where he died at 5.30am today.

Investigations are ongoing.

No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.
