Five Pomeranian puppies have been recovered during the search of a van at Dublin Port.

The dogs were found in a cage in the van, which was en route to England, at around 9.20am.

They were handed over to the DSPCA because they did not have valid documentation.

Gardaí said the puppies will be quarantined before being placed for adoption.

The van was also seized for no insurance.

A garda spokesman said today’s seizure is the third such incident as part of Operation C-Port at Dublin Port.
