Gardaí have arrested a man in his early 20s in connection with an attempted robbery that occurred at a bank at Rosslare Harbour, Co Wexford, this morning.
Uniformed gardaí responded to an alarm activation at the bank shortly before 10am.
Gardaí searched the perimeter of the building and a number of staff members were observed in a room at the rear of the building. They were able to exit the building with the help of the gardaí.
Gardaí then became aware that a man was still inside the bank with a firearm and it was alleged that a shot had been discharged.
This man then fled the scene on foot and was pursued by gardaí.
He was arrested a short distance from the bank.
He was taken to Wexford Garda Station where he is currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
During the incident gardaí recovered a firearm, ammunition, cable ties and duct tape.
No cash was taken during the incident and no injuries were reported.
