An Irishman has died following a shooting at a Majorcan holiday resort in Spain.
The man was shot outside an empty supermarket in Costa de la Calma, around 24km from the capital Palma just after 9pm this evening.
Attempts to revive the victim, who is believed to be in his 30s, failed.
Police are said to be searching for up to three suspects.
Locals said the man was with his family when he was shot.
A worker at a restaurant near the scene of the shooting said they were asked to take care of around six children while police questioned a woman believed to be the man's partner.
A witness said: "I heard three shots but there were apparently four and then saw a man with a blue hoodie pulled tight over his face run by."
A spokesman for the Civil Guard was unable to confirm the nationality of the victim, although local reports said he was Irish and officers at the scene also described him as an Irishman.
The spokesman said: "A man was shot in the back around 9.05pm local time in a street in Costa de la Calma. Officers are still at the scene."
A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs said that they are aware of a shooting in Majorca and are providing consular assistance.
