A woman who was stabbed several times outside her home two years ago by her former partner has told the Central Criminal Court that he has never shown any remorse for the attack that almost killed her.

Denis Leahy, 50, from Queen Street in Dublin, has pleaded guilty to the attempted murder of Rose Kenny on 23 September 2014.

He is due to be sentenced next week.

Giving a victim impact statement in the Central Criminal Court today, the mother of one said she still feels guilty about bringing Leahy into her life and endangering her own life and the lives of her family.

Ms Kenny and Leahy had previously been in a relationship for five years but the court heard he attacked the 51-year-old because he heard that she had alerted the gardaí to drugs in his flat.

The allegation was not true but Leahy fled to Thailand and returned to Ireland four months before stabbing Ms Kenny.

The court heard that on the morning of 23 September 2014 she was a "normal 49-year-old woman living a normal existence".

"I had family obligations and I had worked since the age of 14," said Ms Kenny.

"I always had a carefree spirit that my family and friends enjoyed. I never gave a second thought to stepping outside my house and just got on with my normal day-to-day activities," she said.

The court heard that now Ms Kenny's life is in two separate segments. Her life can be categorised into "before the attempted murder" on her and her life "after it".

Ms Kenny said she has never returned to her home of 20 years and still feels guilt at bringing Leahy and the danger he posed, into her life.

She said he attacked her whole family that day and she would never forget the screams of her sister and daughter who arrived on the scene shortly afterwards.

Ms Kenny also said she felt so broken and no longer trusted the world in the same way.

She said Leahy has never shown any remorse to her or her family.

Mr Justice Paul Butler said he would sentence him next week.
