A man has appeared in court charged with dangerous driving causing the death of a New Zealand woman who was on holidays in Cork earlier this month.

Dr Cedric Simpson, 50, from Portland in Oregon is currently in Cork on a cookery course.

He was charged with dangerous driving causing the death of Lynn Anderson at the Skew Bridge on the Lower Glanmire Road on 19 June.

Ms Anderson had arrived in Cork from New Zealand the previous day and had been joined by other members of her family for a reunion.

Dr Simpson was remanded overnight to Mayfield Garda Station to allow him to raise €10,000 in cash for bail.

He is due before Cork District Court again tomorrow.
