The excavation and search of the back garden of a house in south Dublin following a report two babies were buried in the garden has concluded.

No human remains or any other evidence was found.

A file is to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The search operation was launched at the end of April after it was reported to gardaí that the bodies of two babies had been buried in the garden.

A woman came forward and alleged she had been sexually abused as a child over a ten-year period in the 1960s and 1970s.

She told gardaí she gave birth to two babies who had been killed and buried in a garden.
