A 35-year-old man has been charged with four counts of assault causing harm to four children in Co Wicklow last night.
Stephen Hartnett with an address at Kilpoole, Wicklow, appeared before a special sitting of Bray District Court this evening.
Garda Neil Doyle gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution to the court.
He said Mr Hartnett was arrested at Wicklow Garda Station at 7.30pm this evening.
Garda Doyle said when he charged Mr Hartnett with four counts of assault causing harm, he made no reply.
Mr Hartnett's solicitor Kieran Conway said his client would not be applying for bail this evening.
He submitted a statement of means to apply for legal aid, which was granted by Judge Gerard Furlong following no objection from the gardaí.
Superintendent Paul Hogan asked for the accused to be remanded in custody.
Judge Furlong remanded Mr Hartnett in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court on Thursday next.
He requested that Mr Hartnett receive the appropriate psychiatric and medical assistance.
