Two men in their 30s have been shot dead within hours of each other in separate gun attacks in Dublin.

The first victim, who was from Co Tyrone but living in the north inner city area, was fatally injured in a shooting at around 9.35pm in the Sunset House Pub in Ballybough.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, which is a few hundred metres from Croke Park.

Just before midnight, another man was shot several times in the Kilcronan area of Clondalkin in west Dublin.

He also died at the scene.

It is understood the two shootings are not linked.

A car believed to be linked to the earlier attack was found burnt-out nearby on the Walsh Rd in Drumcondra. It is understood it was an Audi.

The victim was known to Gardaí for involvement with dissident republicanism.

He appeared before the Special Criminal Court on a number of occasions in recent years charged with IRA membership.

A garda source said they are keeping an open mind and are investigating a number of possibilities on the Sunset House shooting.

The victim had been involved in a dispute last year with another dissident republican.

He was also under investigation for suspected links to the shooting in the Regency Hotel.

His home was searched last week as part of that investigation.

The murder could, therefore, be connected to the ongoing feud between two criminal gangs that has so far claimed five other lives.
