A man and a woman in their 20s are being questioned by detectives in Cork after their car was stopped at a checkpoint in Blarney last night.
A search of the car revealed a sawn-off shotgun and ammunition.
The checkpoint was part of An Garda Síochána's Operation Thor, which was set up to combat rural crime.
Both the man and the woman are from Cork city.
The man is being questioned at Gurranabraher Garda Station, while the woman is being questioned at Mayfield Garda Station.
