500 animals that were sold at auction to service the debt of a Cork farmer earlier this week will have to be resold after the bidders failed to pay for them.

51-year-old Peter Kingston from Nohoval in Cork, whose family once won RTÉ's Ireland's Fittest Family, had his herd sold after he became indebted to ACC Bank.

A statement from the sales agent, acting on behalf of the Cork County Sheriff, said the two parties who bid upon a significant number of the animals had failed to comply with the terms and conditions related to the payments.

The agent said that it is with regret, added expense and frustration that the sales agent will have to carry out an online tender process to resell the animals.

Mr Kingston said the feeling of losing his herd was akin to "the day after a funeral".

The Fresian Holstein cattle were seized from the well-known Crayden Hill farm after ACC Bank was awarded a €2.4m judgement over unpaid debts.
