A nurse who allegedly failed to provide appropriate care to an 85-year-old nursing home resident is the subject of a disciplinary inquiry.
The elderly woman, Ms C, has dementia and was a resident at the Carysfort Nursing Home in Dublin when she fell on 7 July 2013.
Nurse Allan Lasam Sanchez faces allegations relating to the subsequent care he provided to Ms C after she fell.
Among the allegations he faces is that he failed to provide appropriate care to Ms C after her unwitnessed fall.
Arising from this conduct, he faces allegations of professional misconduct and poor professional performance.
Mr Sanchez, who was working at the Carysfort Nursing Home for two years prior to the incident, was not present at the inquiry at the Nursing Board's headquarters in Dublin today.
Night care assistant Xiaohui Liu told the inquiry that on the night in question she saw Ms C lying on the floor.
She told Mr Sanchez about it and a couple minutes later returned to assist him.
She said she did not witness Mr Sanchez examine Ms C after her fall.
Ms Liu said Mr Sanchez asked her to get a wheelchair, and so she did.
Mr Sanchez and Ms Liu then each held one of Ms C's arms and helped her into the wheelchair.
They took her to the chair lift on the stairs and then placed her in a wheelchair at the top of the stairs before taking her to her bed.
According to Ms Liu, Ms C did not mention being in pain.
Director of Nursing at the nursing home, Liny Raju Meparathil, told the inquiry Ms C, who came to live at the nursing home about a year-and-a-half prior to the 2013 incident, was able to mobilise herself - or move around - without assistance prior to the fall.
Ms Meparathil said that on the morning of 8 July 2013 when she went into Ms C's room she could immediately tell that something was wrong.
She said that Ms C's left leg was not under the duvet it was rotated outwards and it appeared to be shorter than her other leg.
Ms C then woke up and started to cry.
She said she was in pain but at first could not pinpoint the exact location of the pain.
Ms C was transferred to St Vincent's Hospital for examination where an X-ray confirmed that she had sustained a fracture in her pelvis.
Ms Meparathil said Ms C's mobility "has since deteriorated".
