Gardaí have appealed for witnesses following an aggravated burglary in Co Wicklow in which a man in his late 80s was injured.

Around 9.10pm on 16 March three men entered a house at Ballynultagh in Shillelagh where the homeowner was alone.

He was assaulted a number of times by the men with what is believed to have been an iron bar.

The culprits threatened the elderly man and demanded cash.

A sum of cash as well as jewellery was taken in the burglary.

The three raiders were described as being of average height, two of slim build and one of stocky build, with all of the men believed to be in their 20s or 30s.

All three men had their faces covered for the entire incident.

The injured man is in hospital where his condition is described as stable.
