The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation has said it is satisfied that the HSE and Department of Health remain fully committed to implementing all aspects of an agreement to ease emergency department overcrowding, which averted industrial action earlier this year.

It follows resumed discussions today, under the auspices of the Workplace Relations Commission, after the sides met on Monday for the first review of the agreement.

The union said this evening management has reaffirmed that all vacant nursing posts and other posts required to deal with admitted patients, either in emergency departments or on wards, will be advertised and filled as a matter of urgency.

The INMO will meet directly with the Department of Health and HSE on Monday, to finalise circulars with regard to the implementation of the issues.

Discussions will also begin next week on the establishment of the Taskforce on Nurse Staffing in Emergency Departments, which under the agreement, is to report after three months.

The second review of the agreement will take place at the WRC on 15 April.
