A number of shots were fired in a robbery at a post office in Blackrock in Dublin.

The incident happened at around 2.30pm at Woodbine Park in Blackrock when a masked man entered the premises.

No one in the post office was injured and the man left empty-handed.

As he fled on foot, gardaí say he was challenged by a male passer-by.

A handgun was recovered during the struggle.

The passer-by received minor injuries and the man managed to flee.

A search operation is currently under way and enquiries are ongoing.
