Video footage of a care worker assaulting two residents in bungalow three in Áras Attracta in Swinford, Co Mayo was shown at Castlebar District Court.
Joan Gill, 63, of Dublin Road, Swinford, has pleaded guilty to three charges of assaulting the residents in November 2014.
Five clips of footage recorded by the RTÉ Investigations Unit in the front sitting-room of the bungalow were shown to Judge Mary Devins.
They include shots of Ms Gill dragging a resident known as Miss A by her top across the floor of the room.
The footage also showed Ms Gill slap Miss A and push another resident, Miss B.
She was also seen to be feeding Miss B in a forceful manner and pushing her.
The court was told that Ms Gill is deeply apologetic, ashamed and remorseful for her actions.
Her barrister, Brendan McDonagh, told Judge Devins that she admitted her wrongdoing from the start and co-operated with investigating gardai.
When she saw the clips of herself she was horrified, he said.
Ms Gill is the only one of the six accused in the case who lives in Swinford, Mr McDonagh said.
He said she has become a prisoner in her own home, has not walked down the street since it happened and feels like a social pariah in her community.
She took early retirement as a result of the case and the entire situation has had a detrimental effect on her and her family.
Mr McDonagh said his client has not been able to live a normal life and does not socialise or go out in public.
Mr McDonagh said the victims are utterly blameless and Ms Gill feels that they deserved better treatment than she gave them.
He said her actions were reckless and ill-advised but were never malicious.
He said she never intended to do wrong.
Her actions were completely out of character and she almost does not recognise what she did, he told the court.
Judge Devins said she would sentence Ms Gill on 23 February.
On the same date she will also deliver verdicts in the cases of four other people accused of one count each of assault at Áras Attracta in November 2014 - Kathleen King from Knockshanvally, Straide, Foxford, Co Mayo; Pat McLoughlin of Mayfield, Claremorris, Co Mayo; Christina Delaney from Lissatava, Hollymount, Co Mayo and Joan Walsh of Carrowilkeen, Curry, Co Sligo.
Judge Devins also ruled on an application to recuse herself as judge in the case of Ms Delaney on the grounds that she had seen the accused in video evidence relating to another accused person.
Judge Devins said that Ms Delaney is assured of a fair trial and as was stated in her earlier direction, video footage will be strictly related to the event.
