A murder investigation is under way after a 60-year-old woman was stabbed at her home in Cork city.
The woman has been named locally as Marian Horgan.
Her husband, who received several stab wounds in the incident, has been named as Billy Horgan.
Emergency services were called to the house at Murmont Avenue, Montenotte, at around 8am after neighbours reporting seeing Mr Horgan, who is in his 60s, being chased onto the street and attacked by a younger man.
The woman was found dead inside the house.
Her body was removed to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem examination confirmed she had been stabbed a number of times.
Her husband was taken to the Mercy University Hospital, where he had surgery.
His condition is not believed to be life-threatening.

The house and a section of the road in front of it have been cordoned off for a forensic examination.
A 25-year-old man was initially restrained by neighbours and later arrested.
He is being held at Mayfield Garda Station for questioning.
