A Government spokesperson has confirmed the Taoiseach has received a request from the Fennelly Commission for an extension of the time frame for its final report, along with an interim report from the Commission.
The spokesperson said the Taoiseach intends to publish the Interim Report following consultation with the Attorney General's Office.
Details of the reasons as to why it is seeking the extension are contained in the interim report.
The Fennelly Commission is investigating the recording of phone calls in garda stations.
Earlier this year, the commission published a separate interim report which found that the Taoiseach did not intend to put pressure on the former Garda commissioner Martin Callinan to retire, but it found that Mr Kenny insisted Mr Callinan retire immediately once Mr Callinan decided to go.
