Two companies - Pfizer and Carechoice Ireland - have announced 330 new jobs for Dublin and Cork.

Pfizer is to create about 130 jobs across three manufacturing sites in Ireland, including Grange Castle in Dublin and Little Island and Ringaskiddy in Cork.

The company already employs approximately 3,200 people at six sites across the country.

Pfizer said that its Grange Castle plant, based in West Dublin, is looking to recruit about 90 people across several areas.

Positions include process scientists; process/equipment engineers; automation engineers; operations specialists; process technicians; quality analysts and project managers.

In Cork, the company's Ringaskiddy and Little Island sites are also seeking to fill over 40 positions. The roles include process operators, mechanical and electrical/instrumentation craft, process engineers, process chemists, and quality control analysts.

"Pharmaceutical manufacturing in Ireland continues to perform well contributing strongly to exports and economic growth, and providing good careers and jobs", commented Pfizer's vice president Dr Paul Duffy.

He said that Pfizer is one of Ireland's leading employers and economic contributors. Its sites in Ireland manufacture some of Pfizer's leading and newest medicines for export globally, he added.

Meanwhile, a care home operator has promised 200 jobs in north Dublin with the opening a new facility on the Malahide Road.

Carechoice Ireland already employs more than 400 staff looking after 338 residents in five care homes in Cork and Waterford.

The company said an additional 500 jobs will be provided during the construction of the new facility, which will have 165 rooms.

Some of the positions among the 200 new jobs announced today are for nurses, health care assistants, management and catering staff.

Speaking at the announcement, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton said: "I very much welcome that Carechoice will be expanding their operation and opening a purpose-built care home on the Malahide Road, creating jobs in the healthcare sector for Dublin.

"With an increasing number of people over 65 in Ireland, quality care is something that will affect all families and I welcome the opening of this care centre. I wish Carechoice, their team all the best with their future expansion," the minister added.
