Socialist TD Paul Murphy has said he has received a summons asking him to appear at Dublin District Court on 2 November to face charges of falsely imprisoning Tánaiste Joan Burton and her advisor Karen O'Connell in Jobstown, Tallaght last year.

Mr Murphy said at least 16 other people have received summonses within the past 24 hours asking them to appear at Dublin District Court on 29 October or 2 November.

Two Anti-Austerity Alliance councillors – Kieran Mahon and Mick Murphy – are also among the 27 people facing charges in connection with the incident on 15 November 2014, during which Ms Burton and Ms O'Connell were trapped in their car for more than two hours.

The charges include false imprisonment, violent disorder and criminal damage.

Two teenagers, aged 15 and 16, are among those who have been served summonses and are due to appear before Children's Court on 29 October.
