Hundreds of people have gathered at the Famine Memorial in Dublin to show solidarity with those seeking refuge in Europe.

The demonstration, organised by the advocacy group Uplift, is one of a series of similar events taking place around the country this afternoon.

Uplift says more than 35,000 people have so far signed an online petition calling on the Government to take in more refugees.

More than 12,000 people in Ireland have offered beds to those seeking refuge, as part of the same campaign.
