South Wales police have confirmed that Former All Black and Connacht fullback Mils Muliaina has been charged with sexual assault.

The 34-year-old, who played for the All Blacks for nine years before retiring in 2011, is suspected of involvement in an incident in Cardiff in March.

He was shown on television being taken away by police after the final whistle of his team's European Challenge Cup quarter-final match at Gloucester in April.

Muliaina has denied the allegation.

In a statement Welsh police said: "Mils Muliaina has been charged with sexual assault on a female aged 16 or over."

He is due to appear before Cardiff Magistrates Court on 7 August.
