A man has been arrested by gardaí investigating the fatal shooting of a 36-year-old man in Clonsilla in west Dublin yesterday evening.

The deceased man has been named as father of two Keith Walker from Tir Na Ri Road in Clondalkin in Dublin.

Detectives from Blanchardstown arrested the 32-year-old man in Co Meath this morning.

A gunman dressed as a woman walked into a neighbourhood youth project at around 6.05pm yesterday and shot Mr Walker in the head.

A second man was hit in the arm.

The men were members of a pigeon club who were meeting in the yard.

Detectives believe the gunman used an automatic weapon and escaped on foot.

They understand Mr Walker may have not been the intended target.

The man in custody this morning is being detained at Blanchardstown Garda Station under anti-gang legislation.

He can be questioned for up to seven days.

Gardaí have appealed to witnesses or anyone with information on the incident to contact Blanchardstown Garda Station on 01-666-7000, the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666-111 or any garda station.
