A number of homes in Garryowen area of Limerick were evacuated after a suspected pipe bomb was thrown at a house this morning.

The incident occurred at 11.30am when a pipebomb was thrown at a house on West Singland Avenue.

There were a number of people in the house at the time.

The Army bomb disposal unit arrived on the scene at 2.35pm and the device was made safe at the scene by a controlled explosion.

The scene was declared safe at 3.25pm.
