Gardaí have confirmed that a legally held shotgun was seized from a 65-year-old man after it was produced in front of an Irish Water worker.

Gardaí were called to the scene at a house in the Townspark estate in Ardee, Co Louth at 9.20am yesterday morning.

A garda spokesman said the Irish Water worker was searching for a stop-cock for the mains of the house.

The Irish Water worker was verbally abused and the 65-year-old man is then said to have produced a shotgun.

The Irish Water worker left the scene and gardaí were called.

No shots were fired and the gun was seized by gardaí who are preparing a file for the DPP.
