A paediatric surgeon who worked at Our Lady's Children's Hospital in Crumlin in Dublin has been found guilty of poor professional performance on a number of counts.

The Medical Council's fitness to practise inquiry today found that Dr Mihai Anton from Romania was unable to write an accurate record in patients' notes and was unable to order certain medical tests.

It also found that during a theatre procedure he contaminated the sterile area by touching a consultant surgeon and another doctor.

He was also found guilty of professional misconduct for securing consent from patients’ parents for the wrong procedures.

Dr Anton was also found to have brought a patient and a family into a room which was an infection risk, as it had a notice on the door stating: ‘This room needs to be cleaned - Please not use’.

He was also guilty of poor professional performance for taking longer breaks than permitted and returning to theatre and the day ward late.
