Fifty free science-themed events take place in central Dublin this evening as part of Discover Research night.
The annual Europe-wide event aims to open up the work of scientists to the general public.
The European Commission has run European Researchers Night every September for almost a decade.
It is an opportunity for the public to meet researchers and to find out what they really do for society.
The events in Dublin are organised by Trinity College Dublin and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
They include 3D visualisations of the brain, a chance to tour world class lab facilities and an opportunity to help astrophysicists rank solar eruptions seen in the Sun.
There are also debates, accessible research presentations and workshops for all ages.
Full details of all the events, which begin at 4pm, can be found at discoverresearchdublin.com.
