Arthritis Ireland has said that a survey of over 1,250 people with the condition has found that 260 had a discretionary medical card and of this group, 145 had it taken away, or put under review.

The association says it is deeply concerned at the number of people with arthritis who have lost their discretionary medical cards in recent months and has called on the Government to make good its pre-Election promises to resolve the issue.

The AI chief executive, John Church also expressed concern about children living with juvenile arthritis where parents' cards are taken away or placed under review.

The survey was conducted online over the weekend.
