The man arrested following the fatal stabbing of a Kilkenny woman yesterday is still being questioned.

Mairead Moran, originally from the village of Kilmoganny, Co Kilkenny, died of multiple stab wounds.

She was attacked by a man as she was locking up a store in the Market Cross Shopping Centre in Kilkenny city centre.

It is believed she had recently been told she was getting a promotion in the Holland & Barrett chain and was due to become a manager.

Ms Moran was described by her friends and relations today as a bright, outgoing, bubbly personality who was well-liked and loved.

It is understood the weapon used in the attack - a type of hunting knife - was found at the scene.

Shortly after the incident, a taxi that it is believed the suspect took from the city centre out to Loughboy was located.

The taxi was taken away for forensic examination.
