Northern Ireland's prison service has confirmed that Liam Adams is one of the inmates affected by new visiting arrangements at Maghaberry Prison.
It is understood the 58-year-old from west Belfast was threatened by fellow prisoners a number of times.
He has been refusing food since Monday in protest against the new visiting regulations.
Adams was given a 16-year prison sentence in November after he was convicted or a series of offences related to the sexual abuse of his daughter Áine.
