A 32-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of David Spain in Shankill, Co Dublin on St Stephen's Day.

Wayne Kennedy with an address at Rathsallagh Park was also charged with assault causing harm to a second man.

Mr Kennedy appeared before Bray District Court this morning.

Last night, he was arrested and charged at Dún Laoghaire Garda Station.

He is accused of the murder of 26-year-old David Spain and assault causing harm to a second man.

The court was told he replied "no" to both charges.

Mr Spain, who had recently returned from Australia, was stabbed in the early hours of St Stephen's Day.

Mr Kennedy was remanded in custody and is expected to appear before Cloverhill District Court next Friday.
