A man in his 40s has been shot dead in Dublin.

It is believed he was shot by a lone gunman.

The shooting happened on the Ballycoolan Road in Finglas.

The victim was taken to Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown, where he was pronounced dead.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination by gardaí.

The Ballycoolin Road is closed from the Premier Business Park to the Cappagh Road. This section of road is expected to remain closed overnight.
