The trial of a Roscommon postal worker has heard evidence he gave a hot parcel to a work colleague on the day he's alleged to have tampered with a urine sample.
Kevin Rogers - with an address at Mote Park in Roscommon - is charged with perverting the course of Justice.
He denies the charges.
Mr Rogers was acting retail manager at Roscommon Post Office on 5 March last year when a urine sample taken from a work colleague passed through the facility en route to Dublin.
The sample was being sent for analysis, after a collision in Roscommon on Saturday 3 March 2012.
But when it arrived at the Medical bureau of road safety at UCD, it could not be properly tested.
The State contends the urine was subjected to a source of heat by Mr Rogers in the post office which spoiled the sample.
This afternoon, postman Mark Miley told the court he met Kevin Rogers in the post office on the evening in question and that he had placed a box inside his jacket.
According to Mr Miley, Mr Rogers said: "Deny all and tell no one."
He said he had no idea what the box contained, but it smelled rotten and was hot.
Under lengthy cross examination by defence counsel Martin Giblin, Mr Miley was adamant that he had not placed the item in his jacket himself.
The case continues in the morning
