The Food Safety Authority of Ireland Chief Executive has said two Tesco products in the UK which were found to contain a pain relief tablet are likely to have been deliberately tampered with.
Professor Alan Reilly's comments come as Tesco Ireland is recalling batches of Tesco 4 Chocolate & Nut Ice Cream Cones.
Customers in the UK discovered a pain relief tablet in two individual cones.
Professor Reilly said tampering of this nature is likely to be carried out by disgruntled employees.
Tesco Ireland has issued in-store notices requesting customers who have bought the affected batches to return them to a Tesco store.
There have been no reported incidents in Ireland.
No illnesses have been reported in the United Kingdom.
