Two men were due to appear at the Criminal Courts of Justice today charged in connection with the discovery of three kilos of heroin in Dublin.

Gardai stopped two cars in the city yesterday and found the drugs, with an estimated street value of €450,000, during a search of the vehicles.

The men, aged 61 and 28, were arrested and taken to Finglas Garda Station.

Meanwhile, a man arrested in Portarlington yesterday after two sawn-off shotguns, a pistol, ammunition and a quantity of cannabis herb were recovered has been charged.

The man in his 20s is due to appear before a special sitting of Portlaoise District Court tomorrow.
