Sanjeev Chada has been charged with the murders of his sons Eoghan and Ruairi at a special sitting of Swinford District Court.

Mr Chada made no comment during the brief court sitting.

Detective Sergeant Gary Walsh told the Court that he charged Mr Chada with the murders of ten-year-old Eoghan Chada and his five-year-old brother Ruairi at 7.50pm.

Mr Chada’s solicitor, James Hanley, made a formal application for legal aid, saying his client had no income whatsoever.

There was no objection and Judge Devins acceded to the request.

Mr Hanley also told the court he had concerns for his client's welfare.

Mr Chada has been remanded in custody to appear before Harristown District Court at 11am tomorrow.
