A man is in a critical condition at the Mater Hospital after a shooting in Glasnevin in Dublin.

The man, who is in his 30s, is believed to have been shot four times outside a gym on the Ballyboggan Road at around 10.40am.

The father-of-three is known to gardaí and has a number of minor criminal convictions.

He is also a known associate of the jailed cash-in-transit raiders, Alan and Wayne Bradley, and murdered criminal gang leader Eamon Dunne.

He survived a previous attempt on his life 18 months ago in Dublin when a gunman fired seven shots at him.

The body-building enthusiast has also been warned by gardaí that his life was in danger.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the shooting to contact them.
