Gardaí are treating the death of a man, whose body was found in a house in Kilkenny on Thursday, as suspicious.

The discovery was made at 7pm at Fatima Place.

He has been named as Anthony Barrett from Parliament Street.

Mr Barrett's body was removed to Waterford Regional Hospital where a post mortem was carried out by Deputy State Pathology Dr Khalid Jabbar.

The cause of death is not being disclosed for operational reasons.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone who may have been in the area of Fatima Place between Wednesday and Thursday and who may have witnesses anything to contact Kilkenny Garda Station on 056 7775000, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
