A 20-year-old man has been shot and seriously injured in Dublin.

He was shot up to three times in the upper body as he walked along Moorefield Avenue just after 7pm.

The man was taken to Tallaght Hospital where his condition is described as critical.

A white van, believed to be used by the gunman and an accomplice, was found burned out a short time later in the nearby Woodview area.

The two crime scenes are being preserved for forensic examinations. The victim is not thought to be involved in serious crime.

Detectives are trying to establish a motive for the shooting but believe it could be drug related.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone with information on the shooting to contact Ronanstown Garda Station on 01-6667700, or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
