A 46-year-old man has appeared in court in north Wales charged with the murder of Irish woman Catherine Gowing.

Clive Sharp, of no fixed abode, spoke only to confirm his name and age.

When asked by the presiding magistrate at Mold Magistrates' Court whether he understood the allegation being made, he replied "Yes".

No application for bail was made and Mr Sharp was remanded in custody to appear before Caernarfon Crown Court on 23 October.

Ms Gowing's sister Emma and brother-in-law Shay were in court for the brief hearing.

In a statement afterwards, they said their primary concern and objective is to find Catherine.

"The support we have received from the police, the public and Catherine's friends and family have kept us going and will continue to do so until we bring Catherine home," they said.
