Two men have been arrested in connection with the shooting of a 16-year-old boy last night in Crumlin, Dublin.
A man in his 20s was arrested this afternoon and is being held at Sundrive Road Garda Station.
Earlier, a 26-year-old man was arrested and is being detained at Crumlin Garda Station.
Both men can be held for up to three days.
The teenager was standing with a man outside a house on Lismore Road in Crumlin at about 9pm when a black saloon car pulled up and shots were fired.
The victim was standing with his back to the car and was hit in the back, head and ear.
His condition has been described as serious but stable.
Gardaí hope to speak in detail to a third person who was also present at the scene, after speaking to him briefly last night.
Minister for Justice Alan Shatter described the incident as "completely and totally unacceptable".
Speaking on RTÉ's News at One, Mr Shatter said it is yet another example where those involved showed no respect for human life.
The minister said he understands the concerns of the community, but he said gardaí are targeting those involved in organised crime.
Mr Shatter said in the last two-and-a-half weeks there have been a number of "totally unacceptable" incidents.
However, he said gardaí have all the resources they require and added that he has the greatest confidence that they will bring to justice those responsible.
Mr Shatter said gardaí at both local and national level are targeting people involved in organised crime, many of whom he said are involved in the drugs trade, tobacco smuggling and fuel laundering.
The Deputy Garda Commissioner described the shooting as a horrendous act that was absolutely reprehensible.
Noirin O'Sullivan said gardaí in Crumlin were following a number of definite lines of inquiry, but she said anyone with information should contact gardaí.
Commissioner O'Sullivan also said the feuding criminal gangs in the area are constantly monitored and there was nothing to suggest that the shooting was an escalation in the ongoing feud.
Anyone with information on last night's shooting is asked to contact Crumlin Garda Station on 01-6666200, or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111.
