A widow who sued the men involved in the murder of her husband has been awarded over €720,000 in damages in a landmark judgment by the High Court.
Margaret Madden sued three men and the estate of another over the murder of her husband Terence, who bled to death after being shot in the legs outside his home in Monasteraden, Co Sligo, in 1999.
Three men are serving life sentences for the murder.
Another man received a three-year suspended sentence for possession of a shotgun.
It is the first time the family of a murder victim has successfully sued those responsible for conspiring in a wrongful death.
