Investigation to be carried out into two deaths at two separate mental health units

Investigations into the deaths of two patients at separate mental health units are to be carried out.

The HSE says a woman, believed to have been in her 40s, died yesterday at the HSE Acute Mental Health Unit which is located on the grounds of Tallaght hospital.

It is understood that she was attending the psychiatric unit for treatment.

Meanwhile, the HSE South has confirmed that a man in his 30s who was a patient at the mental health unit at Kerry General Hospital has died.

The HSE South is in contact with the patient's family, gardaí and the Mental Health Commission have said that they will co-operate with any investigations that are deemed necessary.

It is also carrying out its own internal review.
