Gardaí investigate gun shop robbery in Wicklow

Gardaí have confirmed that more than 29 rifles and shotguns were stolen from a gun shop near Ashford, Co Wicklow earlier this month.

The guns, which include a number of .22 rifles, were stolen on Saturday 8 September.

Gardaí have also confirmed that a quantity of ammunition was taken during the robbery.

The raid on the premises of Country Sports, 2.5km from Ashford in east Wicklow, took place nine days ago, but details only emerged today.

Gardaí say five men gained entrance to the premises through the roof and broke through a number of internal doors to access the weapons.

Three days later two of the weapons were recovered when gardaí stopped a car in the Bluebell area of Dublin city.

A 26-year-old man was arrested. He was subsequently released and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardaí in Wicklow town have appealed to anyone with information about the stolen weapons and ammunition to contact them at 0404-60140
