A 34-year-old man has been brought before a special sitting of Dundalk District Court charged with the murder of his wife.
Michael McDonagh is accused of killing his wife Jacqueline at their home in College Manor in Dundalk early on Wednesday morning.
There was tension in the courtroom before and after the hearing, as relatives of Mrs McDonagh shouted abuse at Mr McDonagh.
His solicitor Cahir O'Higgins told the court that Mr McDonagh was a particularly vulnerable individual and required medical treatment.
Judge Denis McLoughlin recommended that Mr McDonagh be medically examined and receive appropriate medical treatment.
He remanded him in custody to appear again at Cloverhill District Court next Friday.
