Two held as Cork stabbing treated as murder

Gardaí in Cork are now treating as murder the death of a man who was fatally stabbed in the city in the early hours of this morning.

The victim has been named as Mark Hanlon, 31, from Lotamore in Mayfield.

A man and a woman arrested near the scene on Infirmary Road have had their period of detention extended.

The investigation was upgraded this evening after post mortem examination results confirmed the man died from one fatal stab wound.

This evening gardaí appealed to the drivers and occupants of two taxis that came upon the altercation between 2am and 2.15am last night to contact them.
